Good adventure - Sir Christian Map 1 Haven - Heroes 5 map

I enjoy this map a lot, but I am stuck right now - I defeated Arantir and all green players, but they just keep spawning from the last town (the Ninurta-Usur). Hey there, thanks for playing! The border guards are a completely optional route, I don't think using instant travel will cause much of a problem. If you bypass it like that.

That being said, there's probably other instant travel issues on the map (like bypassing the tunnel guards), so

Heroes 5 walkthrough | Campaign 5 - Sylvan | Mission 5 - The Vampire Lord

Other walkthrough

This one took me a few days and 2-3 trys but I finally finished it and thought I'd add my two cents. This is a skin and bones rush way of doing it but here's what I did (also pretty much the same as what solitudeforever said):
Week 1 and 2: Clear starting area and build up both towns. I built up both towns eventually all the way up to emerald dragons but first and foremost concentrate on getting master hunters and druid elders asap. I found just one town in my previous tries was nowhere near enough output. Remember to collect hunters and pixies from their buildings throughout.

Week 3: Move to southestern quadrant and clear there. Go west first and kill dragons etc there, then capture town. Take Findan back home and set favoured enemy to skeleton archers and pick up reinforcements from both towns, I had Direal and Talanar waiting at portal end. While doing this buy heroe from necro town to capture mines.

Week 4: Head underground and straight down the side to the next dragons and necro town then move to a capture centre necro town. While doing this bring and summon another weeks worth of reinforcements for Findan. Then move to eastern dragons and portal.

Now in my previous turns I spent time completing the secondary objectives. My third time lucky I had said to hell with it and just didn't bother. Being secondary objectives there are not necessary to complete to complete the mission. If you want to it's your choice, as long as you keep reinforceing Findan each week you should be fine.

Week 5 or so: Move above ground, kill the dragons in the middle and capture the town there just in case you get in trouble and could use a town portal, otherwise it's not essential. Head straight across to the southwestern dragons, don't worry about mines or anything. During your time here it is inevitable that you will run into Nickolai, kill him and he'll revive in the southeastern aboveground necro town (one of my turns he did this but then portaled and hid over to the southwestern one). Kill the southwestern dragons and go through the portal and kill the dragons up top. Killing the last of these dragons will bring the dawn so that when you kill Nickolai next he will stay dead.

On my third time lucky up in the northwestern quadrant I was being tailed so I decided to use town portal which brought me back to the starting area. Which was perfect. Nickolai revived, stayed and hid in the Southeastern town with Vladimir all pumped up and nearby. Just a portal away and neither doing a thing nor increasing their armies. My own army had taken a dent so each week I reinforced Findan from both sylvan towns, saved and had a go at defeating Vladimir (my cat and mouse tactics drew him to the other portal but weren't good enough to give Findan enough room to sneak into Nickolai and he wouldn't follow through the portal underground, he's one devoted guardian). After 2-3 weeks of reinforcing Findan, saving and fighting Vladmir I managed to finally defeat him and moved in to kill Nickolai. He had 663 skeleton archers and 150 plague zombies, he gave most of the army he revived with to Vladmir who had 64 spectral dragons 80 wraiths 114 archlichs...you get the picture. Like solitudeforever said hunters and druids are your best friends in this map.

And there you have it. My Vampire Lord experience. Hope it helps

People seem to be suggesting "cheats" like Sandro's cloak + Puppet master, but my Findan was a poorly trained hero, with Attack, Defence, Luck, Light magic and that useless ranger ability where you specialize against particular enemies (which I never used in the entire campaign).

I started out normally, took the first portal around week 3, lost major units capturing the first necromancer town. Went back for reinforcements, then took the second portal that takes you underground. Fought through thousands of neutral imps and sprites, got to the central necro town, lost almost my entire army capturing it (due to 1500 skeleton archers). Hero-chained more sylvan troops to my hero, and started building up the necro towns while I explored.

Eventually captured the other underground necro town, built up a fairly good sylvan army (around 400 sprites, 300 war dancers, 250 master hunters, 150 druids, 100 unicorns, 80 trees, 12 dragons), and took the portal to the south west island, where Nicolai crushed me with his 6000 skeleton archers, 1200 zombies, 1000 ghosts, 500 vamps, 250 liches, 30 spectral dragons. Twice. With me defending a castle.

I thought about restarting the entire campaign and training up Findan differently, but I was too lazy to, so instead I loaded just before Nicolai attacks me, instant-travelled past him and back underground (he doesn't follow you underground - in fact, nobody ever comes underground), and tried to outproduce him.

Of course, with Nicolai's side having 3 necro towns and me only 2 sylvan towns, I would never outproduce him. So I decided to accumulate spectral dragons (you get 3 for each of your 3 necro towns, and 2 for each sylvan town - use the shine of the netherworld to covert green dragons to bone dragons, then upgrade bone dragons - that's 13 dragons per week!), and skeleton archers (again convert sprites to skeletons, and upgrade). By the way, YOU DON'T LOSE ANY MORALE FOR MIXING UNDEAD AND SYLVAN TROOPS. Within a month or two I had 2000 skeleton archers and 100 spectral dragons in my army. When I tried to fight Nicolai again, I still lost - but it was a lot closer.

I carried on producing units, and I stumbled upon Lucretia, level 24 necromancer, in my tavern - a heaven send! I hired her, and gave her all my troops and the unicorn horn bow (it's always there, underground, about halfway along the path running down the left of the map, very hard to see tho, it's guarded by cerebri - there's 2 groups close together). She went underground, and fought the legions of imps, hell hounds, gryphins, and other neutral troops. By the end of month 7, she raised me 20500 skeleton archers!

With Findan's final army (20500 skeleton archers, 700 war dancers, 600 master hunters, 400 druids, 250 unicorns, 150 trees, and 220 spectral dragons) I resurfaced, only to see Nicolai running away from me this time. I easily captured the necro towns, killed the remaining neutral spectral dragons and brought the dawn, then attacked him in his castle.

He had 8000 skeleton archers, 2500 zombies, 1500 ghosts, 900 vamps, 450 liches, 250 wights, and 180 spectral dragons. My strategy was simple, surround my shooting units with my melee units to protect them and just defend with melee units while shooting units shot. The initial shots reduced Nicolai's army to 6000 skeleton archers, my master hunters to 4000, my druids to 3500, and my skeletons finished them off first round. The liches then killed almost all my master hunters, but luckily the master hunters were surrounded with skeletons and bone dragons and the death cloud hurt no-one else. Next round skeleton archers killed all the liches. Then the melee troops started coming towards me, my skeleton archers killed an entire stack per shot, so it was over quickly with very few casualties on my side.

So best way to defeat thousands of skeleton archers... is with even more skeleton archers ;-).

Wow! First impression - beautiful! We have night in Heroes 5, and looks stunning. I was just staring at my small area for some 10-15 minutes, admiring the scenery. Anyway...Findan found not much resistance in his start area when having combined army from three heroes. Left just 45 Raksahasahsadadasdjahfa Rajas alone. Anyway, I think it was week 2 when I broke through the garrisons, got abandoned mines and went through two way portal. There visited quest hut, and soon after got attacked by necro hero. Carrying 550 skeleton archers, ouch. Plus hero casts like crazy project image spell (not sure of exact name now), and that, you guessed right, on skellies. Reloaded, and got some more hunters, druids, actually all the army I could get, and got attacked again (maybe it was week 3 now). Findans speciallity kicked in, killed some 100 skellies, had luck with initiative, and as soon as it was AI's turn...he fled! Guess this happens quite often. Could've hurt me more, but instead opted for this crazy option. Oh well. A bit about objective. You have to kill Nicolai, now Vampire Lord, and Nicolai is that silly looking (on adventure map) chap you'll hear lots of times as he instant travels. But as you kill him, he immidiatelly respawns back...and now you have to bring back the dawn. That supposedly help in this task of killing him. And how to do that...well, attack some spectral dragons that are revealed when visiting eye of the magi, and you'll see. Anyway, after that first necro hero, took his town which is in same area, cleared that area as well, got all mines, but left those 900 wights alone. After some time went through another two way portal, this time you exit in underground, there are two necro towns here, plus three great artifacts behind some garrisons. One town is in center of the map, other in south-west corner. There I've seen some crazy numbers of skeletons on one hero, something that poster above me spoke about. Just 5,000 skellies this time. Well, I had enough troops, that Findan's speciallity killed around 600-700 of them I think. And again, hero fled when got it's turn. Had atleast still some 2,000-3,000 skelies when did that. Also, there's a golden bow (again, not sure of H5 name for it) right next to road when you go down from 2-way portal. Helps a ton. Now, you can explore the underground, getting those two necro towns (I got first southwest one, then 5,000 skels hero came close), and beating those spectral dragons. There's another portal in north east corner that leads directly into the heart of necromancers, but I think you are safe in underground, as not once I saw AI coming - save for those that were already there. Get as many troops as you can, I had everything but sprites, and go through that north east portal. Oh, look, another hero with legions of skellies. But now, 10,000+! This time battle went some time before AI fled. Lost all emerald dragons (35+), and war dancers and some unicorns. And that after couple of reloads. Atleast AI knows how to shield those skellies. Each stack of master hunters, druid elders killed some 500+ skeletons, and I shot only them. Rest of AI army possed no such threat. Also, that hero always casted first Banshee Howl. If it'd casted phantom image first (which is instant it seems) I'd be dead. Also, I attacked at start with emerald dragons, and their breath attack killed not only necro dragons, but some 400-500 skellies as well. Unicorns killed vampires (I had tactics), My archers shot skellies, treant waited, war dancers went towards necro troops, and now was skellies turn. They killed dragons, guess for no range penalty. I ressurected some dragons, to have them as a decoy, shot some more skellies, lost all dancers and after some time AI fled. Phew. Hardest part of the game is now over. I took the town there, beat spectral dragons, visited some power boosters, and there first meeting with little funny vampire lord. And attacks me. Better in stats than other heroes, with bigger army, but with just 2,000 some skeletons. Likes to cast implo on my druids, and even with his spell power, it kills around 30 of them. While I ress them 27 back. Nice trade off. Better than phantom image. Anyway, with him casting implo, you have just to worry about his shooters first, as others wont reach you in one turn. After beating him, he respawned back with same or bigger army, but with just 200 some skellies. He decided to ignore me this time. Well, ok. I'll do the same. Headed for other necro town a bit south west of that in center, got it, got spectral dragons that were close (by the way, biggest stack of them I've encountered was around 150, easily dispatched - guess previous poster waited a bit too long), went through another portal, another town there, another hero, but again with 'just' 2,000 some skelies. Beat dragons that were close there, and here comes the dawn! Grew tired and went for final encounter with Nicolai which stayed in his recaptured necro town in center of map.
