very nice map, although I got a bit surprised when half the water way I read a message that I am the fire wall master, when I totally forgot I had it :D Yeah, for me personally the ground level was easy from the point of having 70+ grenadiers. But I understand that this kind of challenge map is pretty hard to balance. I think it is fine, that even lower skilled players can play this one.
Talking about lower skilled players, I actually didnt figure out the boars by myself :D But otherwise I really enjoyed the underground fights, especially the chain lightning ones.
If I may compare, I enjoyed Deer Spiral a bit more, since it remained fresh throughout the whole map, while here the ground level became repetitive.
Still enjoyed the map very much 9/10 for me :)

Thanks for playing - Battle Preparations
Ye the ground level was badly balanced, I took many losses and didn't want to grind it out :)
Still happy you enjoyed, I also consider Deer's Spiral to be the better map.
Author: wasilix, 06-10-2024 18:08 Like Nice map for a couple of evenings with playthrough - Battle Preparations Hi there!
Finished the map (see playthrough link in the bottom). Finally killed nasty boars after a couple of heads worth of hair pulled and after that it was fairly easy with a few interesting fights.
Overall I think this turn limit idea is very interesting and refreshing. Definitely great job coming up with it and making it into an actual map! However I don't think I'm likely to play another map like this one. While the idea is cool it's pretty hard to improve your attempts because you don't see how the fight resolves after turn 2, and it's quite a bit annoying to be out of control on things for me as an H3 player :)
There is an unintended possibility to bring cannon with Victoria past Zeph (just go back while Celestine is clearing her part).
At first overground part seemed a bit too tough to play with few-to-no losses, but later when I reached lords I realized that the fights were balanced around substantially higher losses. It makes them quite a bit easier to cope with, but as usual with similar maps - a unit lost in the beginning is a unit missing for every combat until the end. For me it was just too hard to accept losses if I saw clear ways to decrease them given that mentality.
I'd personally suggest making overground balanced around much fewer losses - closer to no-losses (possibly making fights a bit easier) - this way it could be pretty well balanced all the way through. It may make the map a bit more challenging for everyone but will keep the challenge consistent.
In current state I wasted huge numbers of joiners (due to upgraded/unupgraded mismatch) and still had an enormous army, with which I could auto-combat through all of final fights with tolerable losses. I think, overground became a bit too easy after 2nd part (starting from water).
Underground was much more balanced and featured some very nice fights and ideas. I think it was possible in part because of it being balanced around no-loss requirement.
My only gripe with the underground is, you might have guessed it, the 2 marksmen vs 4 boars fight. It seems that it is only winnable if marksmen get some morale (not sure how much), and it all comes down to doing same thing in different ways hoping that in some variation needed morale will come and you will win. The fight is frustrating, and I'd very much prefer fights not rely on any luck like that. In the end I won with a turn 2 setup which is far inferior (in my estimation, but maybe I'm wrong) to some that I used before.
In any way, thanks for the upload! I had a couple nice evenings overall, and I really appreciate that you came up with a completely new idea here and made it work. That's worth much more than any criticism I had, and it's much more important.

Thanks for playing - Battle Preparations
I’m glad the positives outweight the negatives. This was just my experimentation with an idea and I’d say I milked it enough so not going to make another map like this.
Congrats on beating the boars, hardest fight in my opinion, still can’t believe someone managed to do it without losses.
I didn’t want to grind the battles that much, thats probably why the ground section got easier as you go on, but I’m not gonna change it anymore, I’d rather focus on a new idea ;)
Author: Sulim81 (Poland), 29-09-2024 14:33 Thank you - Battle Preparations What a great map. I have never met with idea of two-turns battle, it brought new chellenges. The toughest for me were parts with chain lightning and fire wall against gorgons and flies (one battle).
Author: Pelle (Sweden), 14-09-2024 00:58 ”quantity does not grow” - Battle Preparations Great map, enjoying it a lot so far. Just wanted to let you know that the Halfling Grenadiers in the sea part of the map that join you will grow in quantity as time passet. I suppose this is an oversight. I will keep only 50 as intended and enjoy the rest of the map. Thanks for this one!

Ye, I really wish that was a default setting, sight :(
Author: 32167, 11-09-2024 23:24 Like Done - Battle Preparations Great map, I really liked it. The ground level didn't seem very difficult to me. The lords could have been made stronger. The remains of the ground level army after defeating everyone on the screen.
The most difficult fight for me was the fight with four boars. It's like chess, I've played different variations a hundred times. Gave up twice, but then came back. As a result, I managed to get through it without any losses. The rescued marksman helped me a lot in the future.
Totally crazy map!

wow - Battle Preparations
Didn’t realize saving the marksman was humanly possible, I guess with enough morals.
Its kinda tough to make the ground more challenging, it depends how well you do previous fights, so some might find it the easiest thing and others utter nightmare.

Man, this fight is irritating! It drives me nuts after just a few attempts. Not even going to bother trying to save both there, I've yet to win at somehow. It feels like I've got the perfect setup (or close to), but still it's losing somehow. I wish there was a way to see how combat goes beyond turn 2 in autocombat, it might have been quite helpful.
Other than this fight, so far the map is great, and the idea with 2 turn limit is original and new. A bit annoying to deal with inevitable autocombat consequences, and I'm constantly missing the ability to control my troops just for another turn, but that's a fresh and very ingenius idea!

But, I think there is a bug here. Although I'm not sure of anything anymore.

Thanks for pointing it out.

This is not a problem at all. I jumped over the rubble using a cheat code. So, I continue to playthrough and have a lot of fun.
