After defeating the demons and concluding a non-aggression pact with the dwarves, the dark elves, exhausted by endless wars, were finally able to catch their breath. Many warlords left the capital to explore new cave chains and prepare for the upcoming elections of the clan chieftain. At this moment, one of the most powerful clans makes an alliance with the demons. They plan to perform a surprise strike at the very heart of Ygg-Chall and seize power. After losing the capital, the warlords of the Shadow Council will be cut off from each other, and it will be easy to defeat them one by one. One of warlords learns about these plans and decides to deal with the traitors alone.

From the quests i managed to complete only zombies. I have no idea where the skull of Markall is, nor the dark star, i couldnt found any temple in lake of shadow where i was suppose to kill zombies. I am suppose to find a way to unblock the path to treasure that i have no idea. Dont know how to open that tomb. Got some keys, but thats about it.

Hi. You still have a chance to win the map, but it will be more difficult. To clear the passage you need the dark star, to obtain the dark star you need to fulfil the chain of side quests.
Author: piscator, 11-06-2025 00:27 Like M2 Quest choices - The Evil is rising Hey, I'm playing the second map rn and it is one of the best and most creative maps I played in heroes 5. My question is, how much extra rep is available for each factions? It is at this point certain that one cannot complete everything (it became apparent when a group of orcs and druids order me to kill the other part). I chose to kill the druids. Quite some progress later my rep with the elves is worrying, while it grows nicely with the other two factions. Cannot see too many quest for the elves either. Am I hard stuck already?

Hi. To finish the map it's enough to get 75 reputation with orcs or humans, it's not necessary to fulfil elves quests. But if you choose the human side, it will bring some benefits.

Basically, you need to fulfil two tasks of the main altar (raze all towns and get the information about Doninion soul) and complete three quests of the secondary altars. After communication with the main altar you will be teleported (if you have the staff) to the passage and it will be unblocked.

The problem M3 - The Evil is rising
Unfortunately, I can't load your save file - the game crashes in the process. And still I have no idea, what went wrong.
So, what can be done with it:
1. Try to rotate camera and navigate the cursor at different places, including dragons.
2. If 1 doesn't work, unblock the console (instruction here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1720047897).
3. If the console is unblocked, type this there:
SetRegionBlocked("gora", nil, 1) and press Enter.

Hi. Unfortunately, I can't guarantee, that campaigns will work correctly on not vanilla versions. As for your case, TalkBoxForPlayers is a standard function of HoMM 3.1, but your version of the game doesn't support this function. Nevertheless, you can finish the map, but some additional quests won't work correctly.

Cannot finf tear of Asha. Completed all quests except the 3 abandoned mines, cause the guards are so absurdly strong.
Puzzle map fragment suggests its around a peasant village, but i cant figure out which. Maybe its in the last dark spot on the top of the map. Looks like a one way portal leads there, but all one ways om map doesnt work.

About the Tear - The Evil is rising
Hi. The Tear is in the area, indicated on the screenshot. It's good to dig it by an additional hero and deliver to the main hero, while another additional hero is attracting attention of the elven scout. Usually there are no problems for Segref with the abandoned mines' guards. I hope, you've spent not so much time on the surface, otherwise the enemy armies in the dungeon will be very tough, especially if you chose high difficulty levels. The normal time to get to the dungeon is about 4 months.

About Segref in the database - The Evil is rising
Hi. All the visual changes of dark elves heroes will stay in the database until you remove the campaign, but I can't do the mode you have mentioned because the part of Segref's specialization is managed by combat script, it won't work on other maps.
However, all three campaigns have almost no impact on the original files of the game (except visual changes of dark elves heroes and settings of special spells), so they are fully compatible with original campaigns and scenarios.

About the wolves - The Evil is rising
Hi. No, they aren't far away, there are hidden in the forest, just move down from the hut to the 'lower border' of the map, press and hold Alt (it helps a lot to find interactive objects), and you will see them.
Author: Ondřej, 09-05-2025 22:42 more questions - The Evil is rising Also, how can i steal the artifact from Alar? It always says i fail, i tried going with only stalkers in my army to be extra "sneaky" but to no avail. Or am i supposed to always fail this objective?
Author: Ondřej, 09-05-2025 22:38 question - The Evil is rising Thank you for answering my questions. I really did not see that commander standing near the gate. I know it probably is just a me problem, but maybe in an update give these quest npc some ring or aura like neutral armies have so they are easier to spot? Unless they are the type that you are expected to search for like Elusive Jinno (what is the deal with him, am i supposed to find him multiple times to catch him, cause i found him 2 times in similar spot but he slipped away both times) or it is your design to have them be like this.
Author: MasteR, 09-05-2025 16:41 Answers - The Evil is rising 1. About the stats - part of them are saved after the previous map - there are upper and lower limits.
2. About the siege ring - there is the leader to talk. He stands near the raised city, to the right of the human garrison.
3. About Cosko - its a skeleton, located on the island near the sphinx.
4. About the ring - you can obtain it in the cript, which is near the main portal out of the outcast lands.
Author: Ondřej, 09-05-2025 15:14 reply - The Evil is rising I see, thank you for answering. I get that the scope of the maps lends itself to being whole minicampaigns by themselves, it is just slightly frustrating that you spend a good amount of time on the map collecting perma stats only to get robbed of them at the start of the next map. I think letting players keep a portion of their perma stats based on how much they collected in the previous scenario would be better (if it can be programmed in the map editor).
On another note, how do i destroy this cordon that is besieging the human city? I have received the quest from Gabriel but they just have invisible barrier around themselves and j cannot interact with them in any capacity (i am also supposed to deliver them some supplies from the orc capitol if i understood that correctly). There is no named unit, no leader to talk to.
Also, i cant seem to find the Ring of the unrepentant or the thief Cosko despite looking for them everywhere, rotating my camera to look underneath trees etc.
Thanks for your reply and for these great maps, they are otherwise amazing!
Author: MasteR, 09-05-2025 11:39 Answers - The Evil is rising Hi. I'll try to answer your questions.
1) If you use portal, you choose the quickest way, but not the best one for sure. If you go into the labyrinth it will be quite long, but you will be more prepared for the surface and will get useful information.
2) Basically yes, but not everywhere.
3) I understand that it could be rather disappointing. Technically, it is not difficult for me to leave the experience and skills of the hero, but I chose another way because of several reasons:
1. At the beginning, these maps were single scenarios, and the balance were built in accordance to the low levels of the hero at the start.
2. My maps are very big and combat intensive. Level cap would negatively impact the gameplay on a particular map.
3. If I didn't use the level cap, the following maps would be completely uninteresting to play, believe me. I think I chose the best possible solution to make the game interesting on each map, because each map is like a whole standard campaign in terms of gameplay.
Author: Ondřej, 08-05-2025 17:00 Question about design - The Evil is rising Slight spoilers for those who have not played the campaign yet
Hi, just finished the 1st map of The Evil Rising. Had a great time, collected every stat on map, reached lvl 38, all around superb. Now i started map 2 (The outcast) and i am immediately forced to choose out of 2 ways to lose all my progress from the previous map (all levels and almost all stats). Fighting past the portal i am stripped down to level 1 but keep a few stats and the other option puts me at level 7 but removes all my stats and sets them at a certain value. I have a few questions about this:
1) Is the way where you fight the guard of the portal the "better way" that rewards players that can beat the guard, or is it just the faster way in case you want to skip some of the labyrinth if you do not want to deal with it?
2) Is this design prevalent in further maps and campaigns you made (aka will i be forced to reset my hero on every map of these campaigns)?
3) Why did you do it this way? I would have rather have a limited level cap for the missions and keep my levels between maps than play each map from level 1 to max (I do not know if this is actually the case since i am only at the second map). There already were memory mentors on the first map, so it is just annoying to try and get your preferred skill tree again.

Hints - The Evil is rising
If you press and hold Alt on the keyboard, you will notice all the hidden objects and monsters easily.
To catch Jinno you need to wear the artifact, which you obtained from Cosko. To steal the artifact you need to get rid of the second centaur (complete his quest) and then make an attempt standing to the right of the centaur (it is said that the artifact is in the right pocket).

Ah, did not know about holding the Alt button, that made it easy to find him, thanks. Thats a good subtle hint with that centaur, i thought it was just a flavor text.
Finished the 2nd map and goddamn that last battle, do those armies grow exponentially the longer you keep playing? Cause they were insanely large, but i guess thats what i get for spending so much time on the map. Also, the Dark magic Tome not giving me spells like Puppet master and Frenzy is intentional right, not a bug right?

Answer - The Evil is rising
Hi. Yes, you guessed right. The timing on this map is very important. If you choose high difficulty levels, you should be very fast. It's good to know the map to build optimal routs. But map is passable on the highest level 100%.
As for dark magic, the spells you mentioned are banned on this map. Thank you for the feedback.

Opinion after finishing the campaign - The Evil is rising
So i managed to finish the remaining 3 maps and what a ride that was. I enjoyed it quite a bit, fights were decently challenging, story is good (though i am not really qualified to speak on that). Thought i would just share some opinions about this.
The 3rd map
A quite straightforward map, you literally run from start to finish in one go unless you want enemy to stack up army. A handful of bonuses along the path to get you stronger. I liked the idea where you fought the random assortment of troops and got extra stats in exchange for permanent minus luck and morale (im a fan of the idea of getting stronger at the expense of some other aspect of your hero). Not a big fan of the quest that makes you flag all the dwellings, because it is given later on in the map and by that time, i have given up on flagging some of the dwelling since that costs experience and levels (made me lose a skill important for my build and with the random levelups it is annoying to get it back even though there is a lot of xp on the map). The 2 final fights were good, but in case the authors idea was to force the player to use 1 of the provided magic wands, then that was not necessary, since keeping the staff of the netherworld proved better, since with the correct combination of skills (which is easily possible because of the memory mentor) i was able to outspeed the imps and kill them before they suck all my mana.
4th map
A more standard like map, it was honestly a breath of fresh air after the 3 previous maps and even though i hated what happened at the beginning, i really liked the runes system implemented. Also having a 2nd and later a 3rd hero that you have to keep alive was ok, but i was sad when Thralsai, who had scholar, did not keep any of the spells he leardned from my main to the next map (i think that it would have been a good reward for collecting all those runes and a nice headstart for the next map). Last battle was decently challenging but nothing impossible, since i did not wait around the map and let the AI stack up army.
5th map
Not exactly my cup of tea. Taking care of 4 heroes (that must not die) with 4 towns which each require exactly the same resources is kinda tedious for me. The periodic "invasions" from red were not really a challenge thankfully. The preparation time of 4 months was adequate to build up all of the towns and prep my heroes for the finale, although the last 2 weeks of that i just spent sitting in the towns scraping for every bit of gold i managed to buy out the armies. The subsequent invasion with all 5 heroes was satisfying, although some of my heroes were not as good as others. The final gauntlet (the siege) was a good challenge, my only "annoyance" was i had to redo it because i needed to use the special power of Segref and it did not let me even though the game made a manual save before the battle. The last plot twist setting up the next campaign was foreshadowed, so it did not really surprise me (i liked it nonetheless). I just possibly found 2 bugs:
1. The Tear of Asha quest - i dug it out with secondary hero and built it in the nearest city, the quest was marked as completed and i did not get any reward (kinda thinking that the Tear is supposed to be the reward by itself), but when i was teleported to the invasion, the quest suddenly marked itself as failed.
2. Capture the citadel - after breaking through the 2nd line of defences, i got a popup telling me to capture the citadel, but when i open the quest log the objective is bugged (not really a problem, just wanted to mention this).
All in all, great campaign, enjoyed it a lot and i am planning on playing the next one, though im not sure how soon, might take a break first.

Hi. I have added this check, because some versions of Heroes V (usually repacked) don't support 3.1 functions like 'TalkBoxForPlayers'. It will definitely cause some problems, but you will notice them too late after many hours of game. I see the only way here - to find a correct version of the game, where nothing was cut off.
