Three years later and I might have your answer. I had the same issue and had to examine the map in the map builder. There's a quest hut across the river from Golden Valley in the frozen area. To access it there's a skeleton hidden by some trees just above and left of the frozen pond. Pick up the skeleton and the path will be clear. (Careful there's also a resource hidden behind the windmill that will impede your path to the quest hut. Pick it up and you'll be able to access the quest) Good luck!!

yes I did. Not entirely sure how though.
At some point I just visited the ruins again normally, and I got the fizbin (without fighting, just normal visiting).
Maybe it has to do with the angle, possibly you have to come from directly up front or whatever (or one of the sides), but that's just a hunch.
So yeah, just visit the ruins again from all sides and pray haha

Behemoths help
What to do at Smithy Nail Bakermans:
1) Smithy not at home
2) mountains block the way - back to Smithy
3) back to the 3 behemoth lairs, take 6 of them (2 of each dwelling)
4) with behemoths back to blocked mountains - important: separate the behemoths in another army
5) send behemoths ALONE to the Rocky Mountains
6) look what is happening!!!

I don't understand where you are stuck exactly: what you have to do to get to Trosko Major
- cross the Gate to Limbo and you get a message to seek south
- "visit" the Outer gate to Trosko major (not only clicking right); you get another message to seek north
- go north to the victory flag and ... oops, the way to the foot prints is free
- follow the foot prints

To Hero4Fan - In my attachment is where you have to go (north as described) with your hero to get message that let you go to footprints area, it is a little confusing because it seems it is in the wall
